Learning core riding skills with qualified Ace Leaders.

Group mountain biking adventure days.

Safety checks with a qualified and experienced Ace mountain biking leader.
At Ace Outdoors we’re not just about getting about the mountain on two legs, or climbing up them with both hands, we also like going around them, and sometimes down them very fast on two wheels…
Living near to the Peak District we have some of the finest mountain bike trails in the country close at hand. Whether you fancy a circuit of the Kinder Reservoir; a loop ride on the moors; or a longer ride in the Ladybower or Derwent Valley, we have a number of classic routes to guide you on.
Mountain biking is fast growing in popularity and we now offer a number of courses aimed at introducing you to this exciting world.
We do not have our own fleet of mountain bikes, so you must be able to bring your own bike and equipment with you on the day. If you do not have the necessary equipment, or are a group we can hire bikes for you on a daily basis. This is normally about £25.00 per person.
All our leaders are qualified through the Scottish Mountain Bike leader Award that is endorsed by The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and Mountain Leader Training Scotland, and recognised by British Cycling.
All of our biking courses are based in the Peak District as it offers a varied choice of terrain. There are many different trail options for the beginner, to more technical routes for intermediate riders.

Our Trail Riding Fundamentals, or core trail riding skills course, is aimed at anyone who wants to take their bike off road. We will cover lots of the core skills on terrain that gradually increases in difficulty to let your skills progress at a level that suits you. We keep our course itinerary fairly flexible and try to match fitness levels within the group. Rides will usually be around 10-15km in length, mostly on lowland trails, but may involve some climbing.
During the course we will cover the following skills: Basic bike maintenance and safe biking set up, how to deal with simple mechanical problems on rides and what issues to consider when choosing equipment, climbing and safe descending, techniques for cornering safely, braking and gears, body positions – static and dynamic.
Please check our course calendar for upcoming courses
Our intermediate level course is suited to people who wish to ride for 4-5 hours for two days running. During the course we aim to move on to more technical terrain, to consolidate the skills learnt on the core riding or fundamentals course.
During the course we will cover the following skills:
Developing correct body position for ascent and descent, including climbing techniques for more technical terrain and descending techniques for steeper and technical terrain. We will also look at how to control speed and pick safe lines through difficult terrain and trail obstacles. Pre-ride checks include how to select suitable routes and an introduction to route planning and navigation techniques.

One minute you are enjoying the thrills and spills of riding quickly downhill, with the rest of the group spaced far in front of you, as you reach the corner to take a great line round it you come zipping to a halt, trying to decide which way the rest of the group went. Was it to your left or the right or down that track? Sound familiar?
Mountain Biking in wooded areas can be very tricky and disorientating. This course looks at route planning, the use of map /compass and cycle computers for estimation of distance when moving at speed and interpretation of guidebook and trail descriptions.
Having learnt the basic skills let our instructors guide you through their own favourite rides, with this all-inclusive accommodation and cycle touring package. We normally operate this break mid to late August.
This weekend is for those new to mountain biking and is set in the lovely rolling Derbyshire countryside. This mountain bike weekend takes you on great routes through the Peak District National Park that have been designed to provide a variety of riding, including former railway lines, which are now the gently undulating cycle routes of the Tissington and High Peak trails. We weave our way around the bridleways and back roads of Middleton Common, passing the stately homes of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House and in the evening relax in a superb local inn renowned for its food and warm hospitality.
We are superbly positioned in the little village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave, a perfect base for this weekend. Evening meals on Friday and Saturday night are provided at one of the village pubs. Our support vehicle carries plenty of delicious munchies for the ‘snack stops’, as well as lots of drinks and a delicious lunch.
Our support van has bike spares and space for tired bikers, if the going gets too tough. If you want to avoid the weekend traffic we'll even collect you / drop you off at the nearest station and hire all cycling equipment for you.
