Do you know someone who is a budding Ray Mears, or would like to have an outdoor survival challenge experience? Then these courses are ideal!

At Ace Outdoors we love escaping from our busy lives to return to where our ancestors had a real connection with the land and had to live in harmony with Mother Nature for everything we often take for granted today.

Our forest or woodland adventure courses combine all the essential skills of army survival and bushcraft with the best in outdoor experiential education.

We also offer a number of family courses that are very popular for special events such as birthdays and other occasions.

This introduction to Bushcraft is normally run as an evening course running from April to October over two-nights.

We cover camp craft, safe use of cutting tools, shelter building and lightweight camping systems, fire making and management, finding/purifying water, finding edible & medicinal plants/wild foods, natural cordage, backwoods cookery, survival techniques, identifying animal tracks, living with nature.

Ever wanted to visit the fantasy land of Narnia? Similar to our Discovery Bushcraft course outlined above. However, we focus on the importance of being able to keep warm at this time of year. Brilliant for youngsters and those young at heart. Yule (sorry) simply adore earning a warm cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows being roasted on a fire of your own making.

This course is set in enchanting winter woodland and the emphasis is on creating effective shelters with natural and man made materials, fire making techniques and winter travel. Evil winter witches, warlocks, elves, pixies and fairies definitely not included… or are they, you can decide for yourself.

This course runs during the winter evenings in the months from November to late January.

  • One evening session normally 6pm-10.30pm
  • Ratio 1:8
  • Cost £65 per person per evening session

Did you know...? At Ace Outdoors we can offer our Winter Forest Activities as a longer multi-activity short adventure break, combining lovely low-level winter walks using snowshoes in the French Alps. See our snowshoeing holidays page for details.

If you fancy Winter mountain adventures closer to home then visit our winter skills page, in particular our Winter Snow Shelter Workshop and Introduction to Winter Skills courses.

We all know the benefits of getting young people outdoors to work together, to solve practical problems and enjoy learning in a totally different context. Get this right and it offers all the ingredients of an outstanding and highly engaging experience for your pupils. We fully support learning outside the classroom across all key stages within the National Curriculum.

We run a varied menu of courses for school and youth groups from a one-day option, to longer overnight survival residential challenges, based on TV programmes such as “Lost” and “I’m a celebrity…”

Our outdoor education courses cover a number of hands on or practical bushcraft and wilderness skills. The aim of these courses is to help build self-confidence, teach key skills and offer environmental awareness activities that stimulate the imagination and provide knowledge of the countryside.

We believe that every child and young person matters, and that they should experience the world beyond the classroom as part of the entitlement to learning and personal development at school. We work to support hard working teachers and head teachers to make this belief a reality for all pupils.

These educational visits are often the most memorable learning experiences for pupils. Ofsted inspectors say that these experiences help students make sense of the world around them, by making links between feelings and learning and outdoor play, particularly with pupils in the primary or early years setting.

These shared outdoor experiences and rare sense of freedom stay with us into adulthood and can affect our behaviour, lifestyle and work and can even influence our values and the decisions we make.

Please email schools@ace-outdoors.co.uk or telephone us on 0845 505 1221 to make an enquiry on how we can tailor one of our outdoor education programmes for your pupils.

We are also happy to discuss with you how we can accredit your pupils’ participation and involvement through a number of award schemes and qualifications we offer.

Based around the Bushcraft Discovery Adventure course, with the added bonus of getting adults and children to experience shared outdoor activities, interacting and working with each other to complete the various tasks.

This course normally runs between April and throughout the school Summer holidays to the end of September in a number of local parks.

We also incorporate nature awareness activities such as mini beast hunts, picture trails, scavenger trails and other activities to introduce new ways of exploring the natural environment. We also offer an optional camouflage face painting and story time activity for early years or infant school groups.

  • Saturday half day course (10am-12.30 pm or 1.30pm-5.30pm)
  • Ratio 1:14 (minimum one adult member and one child per family)
  • Cost £25 per family

We offer you a wide range of adventurous activities that can be selected in any combination to make your party a unique and highly enjoyable event for you and your guests.

We are happy to fit in and around any existing plans you may have. We can arrange your event at one of our local sites or on your own land if you have a suitable location in mind.

Our outdoor activities are very popular with both young and old. Our involvement can be as simple as providing the activities throughout the day or evening to completely organising the whole event with you. We will provide all the food, drinks and even the celebration cake (due to health and safety, insurance reasons we are not able to provide certain activities when alcohol could have been or has been consumed).

We would be delighted to provide a no obligation quotation for your special event. Please ring us on 0845 505 1221 for further information or an informal chat about your ideas for that special day with a difference.
